Eid ul Adha likely to be celebrated in Pakistan on Saturday, June 7 — Zul Hijjah expected to begin on May 29
Astronomers in Pakistan have predicted that the Islamic month of Zul Hijjah 1446 is expected to begin on Thursday, May 29, 2025. Based on this, Eid ul Adha is likely to be observed on Saturday, June 7, 2025.
According to astronomer Dr. Faheem Hashmi, the new moon on May 27 will be only 11 hours old at sunset, making it unlikely to be sighted that day. However, by May 28, the moon will be over 35 hours old — a favorable condition for visibility. As May 28 marks the 30th and final day of Zul Qa’dah in Pakistan, the moon is expected to be seen that evening, marking the start of Zul Hijjah.
Expected dates in Arab countries:
In countries like the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, Islamic months typically begin a day earlier than in Pakistan. According to the Emirates Astronomy Society, May 27 will be the 30th of Zul Qa’dah there, and the moon is expected to be visible for about 38 minutes after sunset. This suggests that Zul Hijjah will begin on May 28, and Eid ul Adha will fall on Friday, June 6 in those countries.
