KARACHI: The Sindh government has declared May 28, 2025 (Wednesday) a public holiday to observe Youm-e-Takbeer in Karachi and across the province. This day marks the nuclear tests conducted by Pakistan in the Chaghai hills in 1998.
As per the details, a notification was issued by the provincial government stating that government and private institutions will be closed.
According to the notification, all government offices, departments, companies, and local councils under the Sindh government will remain closed on May 28 (Wednesday) except for essential services.
The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) also confirmed it will be closed on May 28. May 28 is recognized as a public holiday nationwide, as previously announced by the Cabinet Division last year.
Through these nuclear tests, Pakistan became the seventh country in the world and the first in the Islamic world to possess nuclear weapons.

Sindh to hire 90,000 more teachers:
Sindh’s Education Minister Sardar Ali Shah announced that the provincial government plans to hire 90,000 additional teachers for the education department.
The minister stated that 83,000 teachers have already been recruited, and offer letters are being sent to candidates who passed the IBA test.

In a meeting with PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Sardar Ali Shah explained that the recruitment is part of efforts to improve Sindh’s education system.
He noted that the addition of new teachers has already improved teaching quality and performance in government schools across the province.
The Sindh government is also focusing on updating school infrastructure, including upgrading buildings and enhancing learning facilities for students in all districts.
Officials say increasing the number of teachers will help address shortages in both rural and urban areas, leading to higher literacy rates in Sindh.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari commended the education department’s work and highlighted the role of quality education in the province’s future growth.
The meeting also discussed plans to invest in technology, teacher training, and updated curricula to prepare students for future opportunities.
Murad holds federal ministers, industrialists’ leadership meeting to resolve power issues;
In another news, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah hosted a meeting at CM House to discuss the transition of industrial units from Captive Power Plants to power distribution companies (DISCOs), as required by a cabinet decision.
The meeting included federal ministers and industrialists, and it was decided that all suggestions and concerns raised by the industrialists would be sent to the Prime Minister for a final decision, according to a statement from CM House.

The meeting also agreed to request the Prime Minister to form a committee to set a timeline for applying levies during the transition. The Chief Minister made it clear that the gas saved from Captive Power Plants after industries switch to the national grid should stay within Sindh.
The gathering provided an opportunity for industrialists and federal government representatives to discuss and plan the timeline for moving from Captive Power Plants to DISCOs.
