RAWALPINDI: Luqman Masih, a prisoner who had escaped from Central Jail Adiala Rawalpindi, has been re-arrested by the jail administration and police. Following his escape, six jail officials, including two Assistant Superintendents, were suspended for their negligence.
Reports state that Luqman Masih was captured in the Bahria Town area of Islamabad. He was involved in drug smuggling and also had a personal addiction. Jail Superintendent Abdul Ghafur Anjum and his team gathered information from the prisoner’s relatives to track him down. Masih escaped by blending in with construction workers and other prisoners.
An inquiry led by DIG Jail Rawalpindi Region Abdul Rauf Rana and Superintendent Abdul Ghafur Anjum revealed that negligence and misconduct by the jail staff allowed the escape to happen. As a result, six officials were found responsible.
Punjab Prisons IG, Mian Farooq Nazir, has suspended the six officials for 90 days. Among those suspended are Assistant Superintendents Altaf Hussain and Sajjad Haider, Head Warder Mohammad Riaz, and Warders Imran Khan, Ammar Zahoor, and Sheer Zaman.
The escape came to light after the jail administration failed to notice the incident in time. An investigation was carried out, leading to the suspension of the involved staff.
