ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has instructed the relocation of former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, from the Bani Gala sub-jail to Adiala jail.
Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb of the IHC announced the verdict on Wednesday, responding to Bushra Bibi’s petition seeking transfer to Adiala jail, where her husband is presently detained.
The verdict was reserved on May 2 after hearing arguments, with the superintendent jail citing overcrowding and security issues as reasons for being unable to accommodate Bushra Bibi.
The court also nullified the notification declaring Bushra Bibi’s Bani Gala residence as a sub-jail.
Following her conviction in the Toshakhana case on January 31, Bushra was placed under house arrest at her Bani Gala residence, which was designated a sub-jail upon the request of Adiala jail authorities.
On February 6, Bushra challenged her confinement at Bani Gala, expressing readiness to serve her sentence in Adiala jail like other political workers.
She cited security concerns for being alone in the sub-jail and argued against the unequal treatment compared to the constitutional guarantee of equality.
Bushra and Khan were sentenced to 14 years in jail each in the Toshakhana case, with Khan also facing a 10-year ban from holding public office and a hefty fine.
Khan maintained that his wife was not involved in the case and was unfairly implicated.
