Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta embraced artificial intelligence (AI) in September of last year with the launch of its AI chatbot, and its components are presently being integrated into platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger, as reported by Private Tech Media.
While WhatsApp has been relatively slow in incorporating AI features compared to other Meta platforms, there are signs of change.
Tech Media reveals that Meta AI’s search bar integration, initially limited to certain regions, is now expanding to more WhatsApp users.
The integration of WhatsApp with Meta AI’s generative AI was first rolled out in November. Recently, an Android beta update brought the AI chatbot to WhatsApp’s search bar.
Currently, this feature seems to be live for both iOS and Android users, although the specific version of the app enabling this hasn’t been specified. Screenshots from the iOS version indicate changes to the search bar that are also visible in the Android version.
With this latest update, WhatsApp users can access Meta AI by tapping a designated icon in the top right corner of the Chats tab. However, it remains uncertain if this functionality will persist in future updates.
Despite the incorporation of Meta AI, the search bar will continue to serve its basic functions such as locating specific messages, groups, or contacts.
According to Tech Media, Meta AI’s data won’t be shared with Meta’s servers unless a user poses a query. Additionally, the prompts suggested by Meta AI are random and aren’t personalized based on user data.
