LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to remove school heads who were appointed without passing any formal test and replace them with new candidates selected on merit.
According to the School Education Department, a written test will be held in July to appoint new heads of government schools across the province. For this purpose, six exam centres will be set up in each district.
The department has asked all district education authorities to provide necessary data by July 4 to help arrange exam facilities. Each centre must have electricity, internet, CCTV cameras, and space to accommodate at least 40 candidates at a time.

Meanwhile, Due to a shortage of teachers in government medical colleges, the Punjab government has decided to hire retired professors and senior faculty members on a contract basis.

Many public sector medical colleges have reported a serious lack of teaching staff in important subjects such as cardiac surgery, paediatric surgery, pulmonology, oncology, cardiology, biochemistry, forensic medicine, and anaesthesia.
To ease the hiring process, the Punjab Health Department has increased the maximum age limit for contract appointments to 65 years. The department has directed all 36 public medical colleges and teaching hospitals to complete the hiring process by June 30.
