ISLAMABAD: An important meeting was held at the CDA Headquarters under the chairmanship of Muhammad Ali Randhawa, Chairman CDA, Chief Commissioner Islamabad, and DG Civil Defence. Senior officials from various departments including the CDA Board members, DG Environment, DG Building Control, DG Works, Director DMA, and Solid Waste Management participated.
The meeting reviewed plans to beautify Islamabad, activate the Blue Area Food Street and Parking Plaza, strengthen the city’s solid waste management system, and promote sports and healthy activities for citizens.
Officials briefed that steps are being taken to make Islamabad a sports-friendly city. The CDA Sports and Culture Directorate has auctioned five paddle courts, which will generate a record income of Rs 7.6 million per month. Also, 25 football and 25 cricket grounds have been planned on directives of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, along with three futsal and one indoor cricket ground. Five cricket academies are also being set up.
The CDA chairman instructed that the pedestrian track and food court in Blue Area should be completed soon, with well-designed pathways. The Parking Plaza should also be finalized quickly to open for public use.
In major parks like F-9 and Lake View, modern lights and more facilities will be added. A proposal to install a dancing fountain in F-9 Park was approved, and work will begin as per legal procedures.
Randhawa said Islamabad is being developed into a green and tourist-friendly city. Projects like electric buses, cable car, theme park, and Ferris wheel are also under process. He emphasized upgradation of major roads like Expressway, Margalla Road, Club Road, Park Road, and Faisal Avenue, focusing on lane marking, footpath repair, median beautification, and greenery.

Urban forests and beautification of roundabouts are also being prioritized to reduce pollution. Model roads will feature seasonal flowers, modern planters, wooden boards, and improved lighting.
He directed that all sector parks be fully upgraded with walking tracks, lighting, swings, and landscaping. Permanent lighting should be installed on key roads like Club Road, Faisal Avenue, Jinnah Avenue, Margalla Road, and the Expressway. The sprinkler system must be improved to maintain the planted trees effectively.
The meeting also decided to purchase modern machinery to improve cleanliness in Islamabad under an enhanced solid waste management system.
Randhawa said CDA is using all resources to make Islamabad a model city of Pakistan, with a focus on improving residential, transport, sports, and recreational facilities.
