ISLAMABAD: International flights might start soon from Begum Nusrat Bhutto Sukkur Airport as part of plans to make the airport bigger. This news came after a meeting with the Pakistan Aviation Authority (PAA).
Media reports say that PAA’s Planning and Development Director, Abbas Sheikh, and other officials met with the Sukkur Chamber of Commerce and Industry today to talk about expanding the airport.
During the meeting, Muhammad Mohsin Farooq, a committee leader from the chamber, said two flights a week from Sukkur to Jeddah got approval to start in July this year.
He said this happened because of the work done by Sukkur Chamber of Commerce President Khalid Kakezai and former president Bilal Waqar Khan.
The officials also talked about plans to grow Sukkur Airport, like adding cargo terminals and runways for cargo flights.

They asked for estimates of products exported from Sukkur and nearby areas to make a full plan for both passenger and cargo flights.
Abdul Fatah Sheikh, a former president of the Sukkur Chamber of Commerce, talked about products sent out from the city, like dates, cotton, rice, pickles, fruits, vegetables, fish, and handicrafts. Right now, these go through Karachi, Multan, and Faisalabad, but with the airport growing, they will leave directly from Sukkur, he said.
In 2019, Pakistan International Airlines started direct flights from Sialkot International Airport to Europe.
