KARACHI: The Sindh government has decided to hold a lucky draw next month to give electric scooters (EV scooters) to women. In the first phase of this project, 1,000 women will receive the scooters, and all preparations have been completed.
As per the details, this decision was made during a transport department meeting chaired by Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon. The meeting reviewed the progress of major transport projects, including EV taxis and scooters.
Sharjeel Memon said the electric taxis and scooters will help create job opportunities for youth and make travel easier for women. He also said these projects will help improve the environment. The government plans to start work on the EV taxi project by June 2025, along with the scooter distribution.

During the meeting, Yellow Line BRT Project Director Zamir Abbasi informed that the important part of the project, Jam Sadiq Bridge, will be completed by June 2025—three months earlier than the original target of September 2025. He also said work on Depot 1 and 2 is going on quickly.

CEO of Trans Karachi, Fawad Ghaffar Soomro, also gave a briefing about the Red Line BRT project. He said construction of depots, stations, and the biogas plant is in full swing.
Minister Sharjeel Memon directed all departments to complete the projects on time and with good quality so that people can benefit from better transport services.
In another development, the Sindh government has also introduced a new super tax on agricultural income under the Sindh Agricultural Income Tax Act 2025.
According to the Sindh Revenue Board, the super tax will be implemented from January 1, 2025, and collected yearly. However, it will only apply to individuals with high agricultural income.
There will be no super tax on income up to Rs15 crore.

For income between Rs15 crore and Rs20 crore, a 1% super tax will be charged.

For income between Rs20 crore and Rs25 crore, the super tax will be 2%.
