ISLAMABAD: The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet on Friday, February 28, in Peshawar to sight the moon for Ramadan 1446. The meeting will be led by committee chairman Maulana Muhammad Abdul Khabir Azad.

According to the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the meeting will take place in the Auqaf Department building in Peshawar. Zonal and district Ruet-e-Hilal committees will also hold meetings at their respective locations across the country.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has reported that the new moon will be born on February 28 at 5:45 PM. It is expected to be visible on the evening of March 1. If the moon is sighted on February 28, the first fast of Ramadan in Pakistan will be on March 1. Otherwise, the first fast is expected on Sunday, March 2, 2025.

However, the final announcement will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. Meanwhile, foreign media reports suggest that the moon may be visible in the UAE and other Gulf countries on February 28. In that case, Ramadan in those countries will start on March 1.

The final decision for Pakistan will be announced after the moon is sighted. However, early reports indicate that Ramadan is likely to begin on March 2. Many people across the country have already started preparations for the holy month.

Meanwhile, PMD Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz has forecasted that Karachi could see an increase in temperature during the final 10 days of Ramadan, beginning around March 20. However, the early days of the month are expected to have pleasant weather, with moderate daytime warmth and cool nights due to sea breezes.
