The Sindh government is stepping up efforts to improve healthcare services for labourers, with major plans including the upgradation of Sukkur’s labour hospital and the construction of a dedicated cancer hospital for workers in Karachi.
This was announced by Sindh Minister for Labour and Human Resources, Shahid Abdul Salam Thaheem, during the inauguration of a newly renovated Social Security Dispensary in Tando Adam on Saturday. He said the provincial government is committed to ensuring basic healthcare and rights for the working class. “Labourers are like our children. It is our duty to provide them with proper facilities,” he said.
The minister said that encroachments on labour department flats, plots and quarters are being removed, and construction of 100 new residential units for workers in Tando Adam will begin soon. These houses will be allotted to eligible workers upon completion.
He revealed that Rs. 4.5 million had been spent on the renovation of the Tando Adam dispensary, now turned into a modern facility. Renovation work at the prominent Valika Bai hospital for labourers will also begin soon.

Thaheem also announced reforms in the educational institutions run by the Workers Welfare Board, aiming to provide better facilities and quality education for children of labourers.
He voiced concern over illegal occupation of labour flats in Hyderabad’s SITE area during the 2022 floods and said that the commissioner and deputy commissioner have been asked to take immediate action.
The event was attended by PPP leaders Sher Muhammad Dero, Rais Shakeel Ahmed Mari, Javed Shoro and SESSI Commissioner, where prayers were also offered for national and labour welfare.
