LAHORE: Punjab government has decided to implement a new sewage and water drainage system across all major cities of Punjab.
As per the newspaper report, Under the leadership of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz, a special meeting was held to review ongoing projects in the province, including those initiated under the Punjab Development Program.
Approving the mega plan for sewage and drainage systems, Maryam Nawaz sought plans for 189 cities with populations exceeding one lakh. The projects will include sewage, water drainage, rainwater disposal, street paving, and other developmental works.
For the first time in Punjab’s history, decisions have been made to build sewage treatment plants and disposal stations in cities, along with constructing storage tanks for immediate rainwater drainage. Stored water in these tanks will be used for irrigation and other purposes.

During the meeting, consensus was reached to lay sewage and water supply pipelines at appropriate distances in urban areas to prevent mixing of clean water with sewage. Additionally, 30-kilometer roads will be constructed and repaired in each district.
The proposal to establish model villages in Punjab was also considered, with approval granted by Maryam Nawaz to begin construction under the Punjab Development Program.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz emphasized that the Straight Punjab Program will benefit the province’s people. Issues in every city due to ineffective sewage systems have led to road damages, which will be prevented with the establishment of a reliable and safe sewage system.
