PESHAWAR: IG Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Akhtar Hayat Khan has said that 75 percent of the suicide attacks in various districts of the province were carried out by individuals from Afghanistan.
While speaking with a private TV channel, IG Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Akhtar Hayat Khan, revealed that the fingerprints of the suicide bombers indicated that they were Afghan citizens. He also mentioned that the suicide bombers in Ali Masjid, Bara, Hangu, Bajaur, and police lines were also of Afghan origin.
He added that both local residents and Afghans involved in extortion had been apprehended, resulting in a decrease in extortion calls. Afghan SIM cards were found to be used for these extortion calls.
IG Khyber Pakhtunkhwa stated that there were 76 reported cases of extortion this year, with 49 of them successfully traced. Extortionists were apprehended in Chitral, Mohmand, and Bajaur.
Akhtar Hayat Khan further emphasized that extortionists had also been apprehended among local contractors in the southern districts. He mentioned that, a year ago, no regular data was maintained regarding extortion calls.
He also mentioned that two police officers involved in a nexus with a criminal group were treated as criminals themselves. Cases were registered against both police officers, and they were handed over to the Anti-Terrorism Department. CTD offices were established in the adjoining districts, and SP rank officers were appointed.
