The main goal of the patrol police is to ensure the safety of travelers on Sindh’s highways. The force will use modern surveillance cameras and other tools to prevent and investigate crimes.

In the first phase, the Sindh Highways Patrol Police will be deployed at 11 locations on various highways across Sindh. The highways included are M-9, Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Northern Bypass, Indus, Lyari, National, M-5, Mehran, Thatta-Tomti, Hyderabad-Mirpurkhas, and Hyderabad-Badin.

As per the press release, the Highway Patrol Unit will be led by one DIG, three SSPs, and seven DSPs.

Earlier, the traffic police announced plans to install cameras and trackers in dumpers. These devices will monitor the speed of dumpers and issue fines for speeding.

In an interview with a private TV channel, DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah said digital monitoring will help reduce traffic accidents. He added that the system will be expanded to other heavy vehicles if it works well.

Cameras and Trackers Mandatory for Dumpers

DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah has made it mandatory for dumpers to have front and back cameras. These cameras will help determine who is at fault in accidents. This decision comes as road accidents involving heavy vehicles have increased.
