Eid ul Fitr 2024 is set to be observed on Wednesday, April 10, in Saudi Arabia, Australia, the United Kingdom (UK), and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
In both Saudi Arabia and the UAE, the Shawwal moon remained unseen, signaling the continuation of Ramadan for the full 30 days, with Tuesday marking the culmination of the holiest month in the Muslim calendar.
Saudi authorities had urged citizens to watch for the Shawwal moon on the evening of April 8, as announced earlier by the Saudi Supreme Court.
The Australian Fatwa Council and the Markazi Jamiat Ahl-e-Hadith UK have both declared Eid to be on April 10.
According to Sharia, moon sighting can be done naturally or with binoculars, with sightings required to be reported to the appropriate authorities, as reported by Alarabiya News.
Ramadan in 2024 began on March 11, during which Muslims observe fasting from dawn till dusk.
Eid ul Fitr, occurring in the month of Shawwal, marks one of the principal Eid celebrations in the Islamic calendar, characterized by feasting, congregational prayers, and the exchange of gifts, lasting for three days.
In Pakistan, the Met Office forecasts the first day of Eid ul Fitr to fall on April 10, anticipating the sighting of the Shawwal moon on April 9.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the crescent is expected to appear on April 8 at 11:21 pm, aging between 19 and 20 hours by the following Maghrib prayer time.
The crescent will be visible for approximately 50 minutes after sunset, as mentioned by the PMD.
