ISLAMABAD: The Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has reported that 500,000 mobile phones were blocked in the last three months due to non-payment of taxes.
During a briefing to the members of the Senate Standing Committee on Interior, the Chairman of PTA mentioned that they have communicated with the Pakistani government five times, highlighting the excessive taxation. Additionally, he expressed the belief that mobile phones should be exempt from charges in Pakistan.
The Chairman of PTA clarified that any mobile phone failing to have its taxes paid within 60 days will be blocked. Over the past three months, 500,000 mobile phones were blocked due to tax non-payment.
He further raised a query regarding why the PTA does not issue a notice before blocking a mobile phone.
