Expected Petrol, Diesel Price in Pakistan: The prices of petrol and diesel are set to increase from April 16, 2024, due to a surge in global oil rates and the government’s intention to raise the levy on all petroleum, oil, and lubricants (POLs).
Once again, people in Pakistan are likely to face a significant increase, with a fresh shock of over Rs9 per liter. Sources familiar with the matter suggest that petrol prices could increase by up to Rs8 per liter.
With the anticipated hike in fuel prices, petrol is projected to be priced around Rs298 per liter from April 16, compared to the current rate of Rs289.40 per liter.
It has been reported that diesel prices are also expected to increase by approximately Rs2 per liter, reaching around Rs284.24 per liter from the current rate of Rs282.
Expected Prices of Petrol and Diesel in Pakistan – April 16, 2024:
Products | Current Price | Expected Price | Difference |
---|---|---|---|
Petrol | Rs289.40 | Rs298 | Rs8 |
Diesel | Rs282 | Rs284.24 | Rs2.24 |
Unofficial sources suggest that the Pakistani government is considering raising petrol prices due to the devaluation of the rupee and tensions in the Middle East.
This surge in prices is not directly associated with IMF recommendations for a GST hike. Instead, it is speculated that the petroleum levy could increase from Rs. 60 to Rs. 100 per liter, with the current levy already at the maximum limit of Rs. 60 per liter. This potential hike could result in record-high petrol prices in Pakistan.
