LAHORE: The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has announced the postponement of the highly anticipated Medical and Dental Colleges Admission Test-2023 (MDCAT 2023) for a duration of two weeks.

Initially slated to take place on August 27, the admission test, based on the curriculum from the previous year, was scheduled for medical and dental college aspirants.

In a statement released by the PMDC, the organization stated, “It is important to inform all prospective candidates of MDCAT 2023 that, in accordance with guidance from the Federal Secretary of the Ministry of National Health Service Regulations and Coordination in Islamabad, the federal government has taken the decision to extend and revise the MDCAT examination date to the new date of September 10, 2023.”

This decision follows a series of events that transpired in the early days of this month. In response to instructions from the dissolved National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Health, the PMDC scheduled a council meeting to discuss the possibility of extending the MDCAT date by a period of two weeks.

Dr. Azhar Ali Shah, the acting registrar of PMDC, stated following his attendance at the standing committee meeting, “We have received clear instructions to extend the test date by two weeks. While the PMDC’s council holds the authority to make date adjustments, we are committed to thoroughly examining the matter of extending the date should we receive a formal request from the standing committee via the Ministry of Health and PMDC.”

It should be noted that the original decision to hold the MDCAT on August 27 was made by the PMDC Council with the aim of facilitating a timely start to classes, ensuring that the academic schedule commences without unnecessary delays caused by the admissions process.
