ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will attend the 17th Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) summit in Baku, Azerbaijan from July 3-4, 2025.
The Foreign Office announced today that during the summit, he will discuss important regional and global issues, support ECO Vision 2025, and promote better trade, transport links, energy partnerships, and sustainable growth.
He is set to meet with other ECO leaders to discuss mutual concerns. The summit’s theme is ‘New ECO Vision for a Sustainable and Climate Resilient Future’.
Previously, the 16th ECO summit took place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on November 9, 2023, attended by then-caretaker prime minister Anwarul Haq Kakar.
This year’s summit will bring together heads of states, ministers, observers, special guests from non-ECO countries, and international organization leaders to enhance economic integration for development and prosperity.

The summit will include a comprehensive ‘ECO Week’ from July 1–4 across various cities in Azerbaijan. It will feature forums focusing on youth involvement, gender equality, and economic connectivity in the region.
In December, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar signed a charter at the ECO’s 28th Council of Ministers Meeting to promote research into clean and renewable energy. This initiative aims to develop innovative energy solutions to combat climate change and is part of the UN’s Sustainable Energy for All Initiative.
Minister Dar also urged member countries to effectively implement the ECO Trade Agreement to strengthen regional security and boost economic prosperity through increased trade among member states.
