LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved billions of rupees in subsidies for farmers and extended the Wheat Support Price Scheme.
In a special meeting held in Lahore, important decisions were made to boost agriculture. The focus was on providing financial help to both Kisan Card holders and other farmers.
The CM approved a wheat support price of Rs5,000 per acre for 600,000 farmers through the Kisan Card. This benefit will also be given to farmers without Kisan Cards, ensuring equal support for all.
The meeting discussed the solarization of agricultural tube wells and reviewed suggestions to make the Wheat Support Program more effective. It was also considered to include landowners and tenants in these schemes.
Officials informed that 60% of loans issued for agricultural inputs through Kisan Cards have been repaid, with farmers returning Rs22 billion on time. The second installment for preparing the new crop has also been released.

About 50% of applications under the Wheat Support Program have been verified. CM Maryam Nawaz promised additional subsidies worth billions for the next crop, which is expected to further develop the agriculture sector.
These steps reflect the Punjab government’s farmer-friendly policies, aimed at increasing agricultural production and strengthening the rural economy.
On the other hand, it is being told that, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah chaired a cabinet meeting where major decisions were made, including the launch of the Kisan Card across the province.

The meeting was attended by provincial ministers, the chief secretary, principal secretary, chairman P&D, finance secretary, and other officials.
The Sindh Cabinet approved a Rs50 lakh grant for JS Academy. It also approved Rs521 million for the Peoples Bus Service from January to June.
Sindh Transport Minister Sharjeel Memon briefed the cabinet, saying the Peoples Bus Service project started in October 2021. Currently, 230 buses are running, with plans to add 20 more. The government will also buy 40 new buses. So far, 250 buses were purchased for Rs6.522 billion, and 40 buses for Rs995 million.
