KARACHI: The intermediate exams 2025 for classes 11 and 12 in Karachi have been delayed due to administrative and logistical challenges, including a lack of examination centres and no chairman at the Board of Intermediate Education.
According to the media reports, Originally set to start on April 28, the pre-engineering, pre-medical, and general science exams will now begin on May 6 or later. This shift will also delay the commerce and arts exams.
An official from the Sindh Department of Universities and Boards told Express News that matriculation exams, ongoing until May 2, are using venues needed for intermediate exams, causing scheduling conflicts.
Media reports says that Other issues include changes to first-year results due to grace marks and the absence of chairpersons at the Karachi and Hyderabad educational boards for nearly a month, which has slowed down approvals for exam centres and schedules.
The Sindh Education Department’s steering committee initially planned matric exams for March 15 and intermediate exams for April 8. However, private school associations objected, citing Ramadan, so matric exams were rescheduled to April 8 (after Eid), and intermediate exams to April 28.
With this latest postponement, students will take exams in hotter summer weather, which could delay results, university admissions, and the next academic session.
On the other hand, K-Electric officials visited schools in Karachi to review power supply arrangements for the ongoing 9th and 10th grade exams. They also obtained a list of examination centres from the Board of Secondary Education Karachi.

Sheikh Humayun Saghir, Head of Distribution Operations, said that once the list was received, teams were mobilized to ensure uninterrupted electricity at the centres.
Previously, the board chairman sent the list of exam centres to K-Electric, instructing them to avoid load-shedding from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM and 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM. The chairman urged immediate action in the interest of students. Section 144 has been enforced around the exam centres.
Today, the matric board chairman will visit various exam centres.
Yesterday, load-shedding during the third day of annual matric exams under the Karachi board made it difficult for students to take their exams.
