ISLAMABAD : The Capital Development Authority (CDA) held an important meeting on Saturday to discuss the operation of electric and feeder buses in Islamabad.
The meeting, chaired by Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa, was attended by senior officials, including the Members of Planning and Development, Technology, Finance, and the Director General of Works (CDA).
The Chairman was given a detailed briefing by officials on the feeder bus project. It was shared that 160 electric buses have been assigned to the project, which will connect to various BRT lines. In addition, 216 bus stops and 4 depots with charging stations are being built at different locations for the feeder buses.
The Chairman was also informed that four feeder routes were inaugurated in July this year, which are currently operational, and the number of passengers using these buses has significantly increased. Furthermore, on December 25, four additional routes were added to these feeder services.
The CDA Chairman was briefed about the establishment of charging infrastructure at Jinnah Convention Center and Sector H-9, and it was mentioned that the award for the construction of a depot at Zero Point will be given soon.

CDA Chairman Mohammad Ali Randhawa directed that the inauguration of all 13 feeder routes and the groundbreaking of the bus depot at Zero Point should take place soon.
He also instructed that digital boards be introduced for advertisements at bus terminals and on the buses. He emphasized that while maintaining the quality of public services, reliance on subsidies should be reduced.
Furthermore, the CDA Chairman stressed the need to introduce a comprehensive policy and regulations to convert all commercial and private transport in Islamabad to electric vehicles.
In the first phase, CDA will convert its entire fleet of buses to electric vehicles. He also directed that discussions be held with public sector institutions and universities in Islamabad to convert their buses to electric as well.
