JAMSHORO: At least 16 people lost their lives and several others were injured when a passenger bus plunged into a deep ravine near the Bola Khan police station in the Jamshoro district of Sindh on Sunday, local police confirmed.

The bus was carrying members of the Bheel community who were returning to their homes after completing wheat harvesting work in Balochistan, said Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ghazanfar Qadri.

As per media reports, the tragic accident occurred near the Bola Khan police station, leaving over two dozen passengers injured. Rescue officials said at least 12 bodies were recovered from the scene, while four others died from their injuries at Liaquat University Hospital in Jamshoro, raising the death toll to 16.

According to rescue teams, four children were among those who died. Five of the injured were shifted to Civil Hospital in Hyderabad, while five others were taken to Taluka Hospital in Bola Khan. DC Qadri noted that the Taluka Hospital is a basic health unit and lacks the facilities to treat critically injured patients.

One of the injured passengers remains in critical condition.

The cause of the crash has not been officially determined yet. Authorities have launched an investigation to find out what led to the fatal incident. Initial reports suggest the bus may have lost control on a sharp turn, but this has not been confirmed.
