LAHORE: In a follow-up to an earlier development reported last week, the Punjab government has finalized the regularization of 49 contract employees working in the Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA). These include officers in Grade 17 and 18 who had been serving on a contractual basis for several years.
The decision, which had been under review, has now officially been implemented, bringing job security to dozens of employees. The move is part of the government’s broader efforts to stabilize the provincial workforce and acknowledge the long-term service of contractual staff.
However, not all contract employees were included in the regularization. Director IT Salman Zafar and three other IT staff members were left out of the process. According to officials, Salman Zafar’s appointment in 2015 is under scrutiny due to alleged irregularities, and therefore his case was not part of the current regularization agenda.
Authorities have stated that a final decision on Salman Zafar’s employment status will be made after the scrutiny committee completes its review. His appointment is currently under examination to ensure it meets legal and procedural standards.

The decision to regularize long-serving contract employees has been positively received within the Punjab Revenue Authority. Many of these workers had been in service for years without permanent status, and the move is expected to boost employee morale and enhance organizational stability.
The Punjab Revenue Authority, which is responsible for collecting taxes on services in the province, plays a key role in revenue generation. Strengthening its human resources is seen as a step towards improving efficiency and governance in the public sector.
