ISLAMABAD: The City Traffic Police Rawalpindi have announced a new traffic plan for the Mall Road underpass construction. The plan will take effect from February 24, 2025 (Monday).
A traffic police spokesperson said the Punjab government will begin construction work on the underpass on February 24. During the construction, Mall Road will be closed from Military Hospital to TM Chowk.
Traffic will be redirected to Haider Road, then to Kutchery Chowk via Marir Chowk, Murree Road, and Rashid Minhas Road. Parking will not be allowed on Haider Road and Murree Road up to the Jang building u-turn.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Benish Fatima said extra staff will be posted on alternate routes to keep traffic moving smoothly. She added that senior traffic officers, including the deputy superintendent of police for VVIP traffic and the DSP traffic headquarters, will oversee traffic flow on these routes.

The CTO urged citizens to follow traffic instructions. She advised people to contact the traffic police’s social media or helpline number 051-9274843 if they face any issues. She assured that the traffic police are working to ensure safe and smooth travel for everyone.

On the other hand, the Punjab government has approved the construction of an underpass on Mall Road in Saddar, Rawalpindi, to reduce traffic congestion in the busy area.

According to a report, officials said the double-barrel underpass will be built from TM Chowk to MH Chowk, making Mall Road signal-free. A sidewalk will also be constructed for pedestrians.
Work on the project is expected to start on February 17 and is planned to be completed in two months.
Traffic Plan During Construction;
Rawalpindi Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Beenish Fatima told media that Mall Road will be closed for all traffic between MH Chowk and TM Chowk during construction.
To manage traffic, Rawalpindi City Traffic Police have made an alternative plan. Around 150 traffic police officers will be deployed at different locations to assist motorists.
In a separate announcement, the traffic police said heavy vehicles will not be allowed in the city during the Champions Trophy matches on February 24, 25, and 27.
The ban will be in place from 7:30 am to 1:30 am. Heavy vehicles coming from Peshawar will be stopped at Margalla and Taxila, and those from the M-1 Peshawar Motorway will be stopped at Burhan Interchange.
Vehicles from M-2 will be halted at Chakri Interchange. Heavy traffic from Lahore via G.T. Road will be stopped at Mandra toll plaza, and vehicles from Murree and AJK will be stopped 20km before the Satra Meel toll plaza.
