ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif instructed the relevant department to expedite the construction of the Jinnah Medical Complex.

While presiding over a review meeting, PM Shehbaz Sharif stated that the Jinnah Medical Complex should be transformed into a modern tertiary-level hospital for not only Pakistan but the entire region.

He directed that modern facilities be made available to patients from across Pakistan at the Jinnah Medical Complex.

The Prime Minister also directed the hiring of prominent experts for the development of the hospital’s master plan, as well as for technical assistance and medical instruments.

“We established the Punjab Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI) to international standards,” he said, adding that a malicious conspiracy was devised to undermine PKLI by politicizing it.

He also expressed his gratitude to the Aga Khan Foundation for its support in the construction of the Jinnah Medical Complex.

The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission Jehanzeb Khan, Prime Minister’s Health Coordinator Mukhtar Ahmed Bharath, and other senior officials.

It was announced that the Jinnah Medical Complex would be established as a trust to oversee the hospital’s administrative affairs, with the prime minister serving as the patron-in-chief of the trust.

Participants were informed that internationally recognized American experts are working on the project, while the Aga Khan Foundation is providing technical assistance.

The meeting was also informed about the construction cost and timeline of the project. PM Shehbaz directed that the hospital project be executed transparently and completed in the shortest possible time.

The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission Jehanzeb Khan, Prime Minister’s Coordinator on Health Mukhtar Ahmed Bharath, and other high-level officials.

Earlier, Prime Minister called Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik and directed him to implement all necessary relief measures as heavy rains affected the country.

PM Shehbaz Sharif instructed the Authority to assess the damage to life and property caused by the rains and to enhance coordination with provincial disaster management departments, as well as with the disaster management authorities of AJK and Gilgit Baltistan.

He instructed the NDMA to ensure the swift restoration of highways and roads that were damaged by the rains or landslides
