KARACHI: The Sindh Government has announced plans to offer free electricity to consumers using up to 100 units of power per month.
A meeting on solarisation, chaired by the Chief Minister of Sindh, Murad Ali Shah, was held, during which the Energy Minister, Nasir Hussain Shah, briefed him on the agenda.
“Wherever I go, people talk about expensive electricity,” the Chief Minister pointed out the public’s worry about high electricity costs, saying.
Under the guidance of PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Murad highlighted the Sindh government’s promise to help people using 100 units of electricity each month, aiming to benefit around 2 million homes in Sindh.
Sind CM further added that efforts are being made to provide relief to consumers using 100 units, as expensive electricity has created anxiety across the country. He also announced the launch of a power generation and distribution company in Sindh.
Murad Ali Shah directed officials to hasten talks with the World Bank for assistance and instructed the Energy Department to prepare a report on generating cheap electricity from Tharcoal.
Energy Minister Nasir Hussain Shah added that in the first phase, 500,000 off-grid houses in Sindh will be provided with solar home systems out of the 2.6 million houses that are far from the grid station.
The Sindh CM stated that proposals would be considered and approved by the cabinet to ensure the implementation of these initiatives.
