LAHORE: Tension escalated outside the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday as police clashed with protesting lawyers opposing the restructuring of civil courts and terrorism charges against their colleagues.
According to a report from a private TV channel, the lawyers attempted to breach the high court premises and dismantle barricades, pelting stones at the police who sought to block their advance.
To disperse the agitated lawyers at GPO Chowk, police resorted to baton charges, tear gas shelling, and water cannons to prevent further movement.
A significant police presence has been stationed at the judges’ gate of the LHC, and one protesting lawyer has been arrested.
Meanwhile, traffic on Mall Road and nearby routes has been severely disrupted.
