ISLAMABAD: In his first meeting, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir briefed President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday about the ongoing operations of the Pakistan Army against terrorism and emphasized the operational readiness against conventional threats.
As per an official statement from the President’s Secretariat, President Zardari expressed serious concern over unfounded allegations made by a specific political party and a few individuals against the institution and its leadership for narrow political gains. He vowed to address such disruptive elements firmly.
Acknowledging the commendable role of the Armed Forces of Pakistan, President Zardari voiced worries over a baseless campaign against the military by a particular political entity, affirming the army’s pivotal role in safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state.
Gen Munir paid a courtesy visit to President Zardari at the presidency today, extending congratulations on his appointment as the President of Pakistan and Commander in Chief of Armed Forces, and conveying sincere wishes for a successful tenure.
He briefed the president on the ongoing operations of the Pakistan Army against terrorism and highlighted the preparedness against conventional threats. Additionally, he mentioned the contributions of the Pakistan Army to development initiatives, especially in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
President Zardari lauded the efforts of the Pakistan Army towards the social uplift of affected areas, emphasizing the army’s steadfast commitment to national progress.
The president reiterated Pakistan’s resolute commitment against terrorism and affirmed the nation’s determination to respond vigorously through all national resources.
He also honored the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the nation, stating that their blood will forever symbolize the resilience and strength of the Pakistani nation.
President Zardari reiterated the nation’s firm commitment to honoring the sacrifices of the martyrs and their families, holding them in the highest regard.
