RAWALPINDI: Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Syeda Shehrbano Naqvi gained significant praise for her courageous act in rescuing a woman accused of blasphemy from a mob in Lahore. Today, the bold officer met with Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir at General Headquarters.
According to a statement from the Army’s media wing, COAS Asim Munir commended ASP Shehrbano for her dedicated service and professionalism in handling a tense situation.
ASP Bano intervened to save a woman from an angry mob at a well-known market in the provincial capital on February 26, 2024.
The senior general recognized the contributions of Pakistani women, noting their achievements both domestically and internationally, owing to their skills, determination, and dedication.
Gen Asim emphasized the invaluable role of women in Pakistani society, citing their importance in religious teachings and social values. He also stressed the necessity of social cohesion and urged for national consensus on combating intolerance.
Highlighting the importance of adhering to the rule of law, Gen Asim advised against vigilante actions, emphasizing the availability of legal channels to address grievances. He cautioned that arbitrary actions based on allegations of heresy undermine societal norms, and reiterated Islam’s message of compassion and generosity.
Gen Asim expressed his appreciation for the sacrifices made by law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety and security of Pakistan’s citizens.
