Dubai: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has officially announced the Eid Al-Fitr holidays. According to a media report, the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources issued a circular stating that federal government departments will enjoy Eid holidays from 1st Shawwal to 3rd Shawwal. Government offices will reopen on 4th Shawwal.

The report further said that if Ramadan lasts 30 days, an extra holiday will be given on 30th Ramadan. This will extend the Eid holidays.

If the Shawwal moon is sighted on Saturday evening, March 29, Eid Al-Fitr will be celebrated on Sunday, March 30, making Sunday the first day of Eid. However, if the moon is not sighted on Saturday evening, Ramadan will complete 30 days, and Eid Al-Fitr will begin on Monday, March 31. In this case, the holidays starting from Saturday will continue until Wednesday, April 2, giving a 5-day long weekend.

Meanwhile, in Pakistan, Ramadan 2025 is expected to last 29 days, with Eid-ul-Fitr likely observed on Monday, March 31, according to forecasts. Khalid Ijaz Mufti, Secretary General of the Ruet-e-Hilal Research Council, reported via a private TV channel that the new moon will appear on March 29, 2025, at 3:58 PM Pakistan time. By March 30 (Ramadan 29), the moon will be over 26 hours old at sunset—exceeding the 18-hour minimum needed for sighting—and the time between sunset and moonset will be at least 40 minutes in various cities, aiding visibility. Khalid Ijaz Mufti noted that if the sky is clear on March 30 evening, the moon should be visible, though the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will make the final call.
