Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has introduced the “Aghosh” program, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at providing financial assistance to pregnant women and mothers of children under two years old. Under this scheme, eligible women will receive a total of Rs. 23,000 to support maternal and child healthcare.
According to a statement from the Punjab government, the program will initially be launched in 13 districts, including Dera Ghazi Khan, Taunsa, Rajanpur, Layyah, Muzaffargarh, and Kot Addu. Other districts covered in the program are Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalnagar, Bhakkar, Mianwali, Khushab, and Lodhran.
Financial Aid for Pregnant Women
Rs. 2,000 will be given when a pregnant woman registers for the first time at a government health center or Maryam Health Clinic.
Rs. 1,500 per visit will be provided for regular medical check-ups, up to Rs. 6,000 in total.
Rs. 4,000 will be given at the time of childbirth in a government hospital.
Financial Aid for Newborns
Rs. 2,000 will be provided for the first medical check-up within 15 days of birth.
Rs. 5,000 will be given upon registration of the newborn’s birth certificate at a health center.

Rs. 4,000 will be provided for vaccination, with Rs. 2,000 per visit.
A special toll-free helpline has also been launched to assist women with information about the program.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said that healthcare is the basic right of every mother and child, and the government is committed to ensuring their well-being. She expressed concern over the poor health conditions of mothers and children in hospitals, stating that government resources should be used to support underprivileged and remote areas.
She emphasized that a mother’s well-being is essential for a healthy family and stated that the “Aghosh” program will offer both medical care and financial assistance, ensuring newborns receive the best start in life.
