The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has accepted the petition for the disqualification of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and scheduled the formal hearing for March 26 following the preliminary hearings.
A two-member bench of the Election Commission, comprised of Nisar Ahmed Durrani and Shah Muhammad Jatoi, has issued a notice to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK).
The bench has instructed the District Election Commission of DI Khan to provide a report regarding alleged false statements on a 735 kanal property in Gandapur’s nomination papers and accusations of asset concealment by him, before the aforementioned date.
During the preliminary hearing on the petition filed by Jamiat Ulema Islam (JUI) Kafeel Nizami, it was revealed to the bench that 735 kanals of land in DI Khan were temporarily transferred to Ali Amin Gandapur, despite the original ownership belonging to Asif Khan.
According to the official decision, Ali Amin, based on the asset details he provided in 2020, obtained a Land Cruiser vehicle by selling the aforementioned land, which renders him ineligible for the Provincial Assembly seat due to misleading information.
It is pertinent to mention that the Election Commission received a petition alleging asset concealment against the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Jamiat Ulema Islam (JUI) Kafeel Nizami filed the petition, asserting that Ali Amin Gandapur made false declarations regarding his property in the nomination papers.
In light of these allegations, it was stated that Ali Amin Gandapur no longer upholds the qualities of being “Sadiq and Amin.” The petition has urged the ECP to disqualify Gandpur from his position as chief minister.
