KARACHI: The School Education & Literacy Department of the Government of Sindh has declared a public holiday for all public and private sector educational institutions in the province on Monday, February 26, 2024, in observance of the Islamic holiday Shab-e-Barat.
The notification, issued on February 23rd and signed by Dr. Shereen Mustafa, Secretary to the Government of Sindh, states that the decision was made with the approval of the competent authority, as per a decision taken in a meeting of the Sub Committee of Steering Committee held on November 13, 2023.
Shab-e-Barat, also known as the Night of Forgiveness, is a significant religious observance for Muslims around the world. It falls on the 15th night of the Islamic month of Shaban, which precedes the holy month of Ramadan. During this night, believers engage in prayers, recitation of the Quran, and acts of charity and forgiveness.
The holiday declaration ensures that students, teachers, and staff have the opportunity to observe Shab-e-Barat with their families and communities.
The notification is addressed to various provincial officials, including the Principal Secretary to Governor Sindh, the Chief Secretary, and the Chief Minister. It is also copied to education department heads and relevant boards, ensuring widespread dissemination of the information.
