RAWALPIND: In a recent update from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), a soldier lost his life while engaging with terrorists in the Charmang area of Bajaur district. The ISPR’s statement highlighted that an intelligence-based operation (IBO) was carried out by security forces in response to reported terrorist presence in Charmang.

The operation witnessed a fierce exchange of gunfire between the security forces and the terrorists, as noted by the military’s media wing. Following the confrontation, the security forces successfully apprehended one terrorist who remained alive after the encounter.

The terrorists, who had been actively involved in a range of nefarious activities including attacks against security personnel and the public, were found to be in possession of various weapons, ammunition, and even a suicide vest.

The ISPR identified the brave soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice as Sepoy Muhammad Shoaib, aged 24. The area is currently being cleared as part of the sanitization process to ensure the elimination of any remaining terrorists.

The ISPR reiterated the steadfast commitment of Pakistan’s security forces to eradicating the scourge of terrorism within the country.

In recent times, Pakistan has been grappling with an alarming surge in terrorist incidents, primarily characterized by suicide bombings and gun assaults targeting law enforcement agencies and police in the northwestern provinces. These events have led to substantial loss of life and extensive property damage.

Notably, the most recent terrorist attack involved a tragic suicide blast during the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) convention in Bajaur, claiming the lives of over 60 individuals, including children.

The resurgence of militant activities has been notably observed since the reinstatement of Taliban rule in neighboring Afghanistan and the cessation of the ceasefire between Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Islamabad.

Amid these developments, the issue of cross-border militancy persists, despite Pakistan’s repeated appeals to Afghanistan to honor its commitment of preventing the use of its territory for acts of terrorism within Pakistan’s borders.
