RAWALPINDI: Former intelligence chief Faiz Hameed has been detained by the military, with court martial proceedings initiated due to his involvement in the Top City housing scheme scandal, announced the army’s media wing.
“Following the orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, the Pakistan Army conducted a detailed court of inquiry to verify the complaints in the Top City Case against Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd),” stated a press release from the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).
It further stated: “As a result, appropriate disciplinary action has been initiated against Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd) under the provisions of the Pakistan Army Act.”
“In addition, multiple violations of the Pakistan Army Act after retirement have also been confirmed. The process of a Field General Court Martial has been initiated, and Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd) has been taken into military custody,” the ISPR further stated.
The military reportedly established an inquiry committee in April to investigate allegations of misuse of authority against the former spymaster and head of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
Media reports indicated that the military formed the committee as a gesture of self-accountability, with a serving major general appointed as its head.
They stated that the committee was formed in accordance with directives from the Supreme Court and the Ministry of Defence.
The management of Top City, a private housing scheme, had made serious allegations against the former ISI chief, accusing him of orchestrating a raid on the offices and residence of its owner, Moeez Khan.
In November 2023, the Supreme Court advised the owner of the housing society to approach the relevant authorities, including the defence ministry, to address his grievances against the former spymaster and his aides.
