Islamabad: Pakistani cricketer umpire Aleem Sarwar Dar has announced his resignation from the International Cricket Council (ICC) Elite Panel of Umpires after 19 years. The ICC praised Dar’s long and celebrated career as an international umpire, during which he officiated in 435 men’s international matches. Dar was appointed to the ICC International Panel of Umpires in 2002, and was also a member of the Elite Panel of ICC Umpires from 2004, becoming the first Pakistani to be appointed to the Elite Panel.
Ahsan Raza joins the ICC Elite Panel of Umpires
The ICC Elite Panel of Umpires has a new addition from Pakistan – Ahsan Raza. Raza, who has stood in seven Tests, 41 ODIs and 48 T20Is over the course of his umpiring career so far, has been added to the panel along with South Africa’s Adrian Holdstock. The ICC Elite Umpire selection panel, headed by ICC General Manager – Cricket, Wasim Khan, oversaw the addition of the new umpires. The number of umpires in the panel has risen from 11 to 12 as a result of the additions.
ICC praises Aleem Dar’s contributions to international cricket
In an official statement, the ICC has commended Aleem Dar’s contributions to international cricket and to the ICC. ICC CEO Geoff Allardice described Dar’s consistently elite performances over such a long period as remarkable, earning him enormous respect across all those involved in international cricket. Dar was voted ICC Umpire of the Year for three consecutive years between 2009 and 2011.
