LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has rejected a plea seeking the restoration of the Punjab Assembly, ruling it as non-maintainable.
The plea was filed by citizen Sharafat Ali, who had argued that the advice for the dissolution of the provincial assembly by former chief minister Punjab Chaudhry Pervez Elahi was illegal and unconstitutional, and lacked written reasons.
The petitioner had cited a Supreme Court case, stating that the opinion formed by the president must be based on concrete grounds.
During the proceedings, Justice Shahid Karim expressed his displeasure over the application, noting that courts are overburdened by such petitions.
The petitioner was fined Rs. 100,000 by the court as his plea was set aside.
