ISLAMABAD: The district administration has decided to remove billboards in the city after recent windstorms caused damage and posed a safety risk.
On Tuesday, strong winds knocked down a billboard at the National Press Club (NPC). Several trees were also uprooted, and fiberglass shades from rooftops and terraces were blown onto roads.
Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, Irfan Nawaz Memon, has ordered the removal of all billboards within Islamabad’s city limits to prevent further accidents.
Currently, billboards are only displayed at two main urban locations — NPC and Srinagar Highway near G-13. However, there are more billboards in rural parts of Islamabad, which also fall under the deputy commissioner’s jurisdiction.
Following the windstorm, the district administration directed field teams to stay alert and respond to any emergencies. “All assistant commissioners have been told to monitor low-lying areas closely to avoid flood risks,” a spokesperson said.
