ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari arrived in Goa on Thursday for his first-ever visit to India, where he hopes to participate in a “successful” meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s (SCO) foreign ministers.
Bilawal is leading Pakistan’s delegation at the two-day SCO’s Council of Foreign Ministers meeting, which is set to begin on May 4.

“I am happy that I have reached here in Goa to attend the SCO meeting. I hope that the SCO CFM will be a success,” Bilawal told reporters upon landing in India’s western state. The Pakistani diplomat also reaffirmed his country’s “strong commitment” to the charter of SCO in a tweet before leaving for India from Karachi.

“My visit [to India] illustrates how much Pakistan gives importance to SCO and how seriously it takes the SCO membership,” Bilawal said in a video message posted on social media.

During his stay in India, the foreign minister is expected to engage with his counterparts from SCO member states, including China, Russia, and India, among others. In a recent tweet, Bilawal stated that his visit is “focused exclusively on the SCO,” and he is looking forward to “constructive discussions” with friendly countries.
