BS 4-year programs in Punjab to continue despite college holidays

LAHORE: The Punjab government has announced summer vacations for all public and private colleges across the province. According to the notification issued by the Higher Education Department, colleges will remain closed from May 28 to August 14, 2025. Classes will start again from August 15, 2025.

However, BS 4-year programs will continue as per the schedule of their respective universities. All exams and practical tests will also be held as planned by boards and universities.

In a separate notification, the Punjab government also announced revised college timings from May 21 to May 27, in response to the intense heatwave:

  • Morning Shift (First):

    • Monday to Thursday & Saturday: 7:30 AM – 11:30 AM

    • Friday: 7:30 AM – 11:00 AM

  • Evening Shift (Second):

    • Monday to Saturday: 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM

These revised hours are temporary and will end as the colleges close for summer break from May 28.

Punjab Schools to Close Soon

The Punjab School Education Department had already announced summer holidays for schools:

  • Morning shift schools will close from May 28 to August 14, 2025.

  • Evening shift schools started their holidays earlier, from May 21 to August 14, 2025.

These holidays were announced due to the increasing heat in the province.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Announces School Holidays

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has also issued a summer vacation schedule for schools:

  • In plain (summer zone) areas:

    • Primary schools will close from June 1 to August 31, 2025.

    • Middle, high, and higher secondary schools will close from June 15 to August 31, 2025.

  • In mountain (winter zone) areas:

    • All schools will be closed from July 1 to July 31, 2025.

No Decision Yet in Islamabad

Schools in Islamabad and other federal areas are still waiting for the government to announce summer vacations. Due to rising temperatures, many parents and teachers are requesting the government to make a decision soon.

Balochistan announced holidays earlier

The Balochistan government was among the first to announce summer holidays for schools. As per the official notification:

  • Summer vacation in hot areas of the province began on May 17, 2025, and will continue until July 31, 2025.

  • All schools will reopen on August 1 (Friday).

Heatwave Warning

The weather department has warned of a strong heatwave in Punjab, Sindh, KP, and Islamabad. People are advised to stay indoors during peak heat hours, drink plenty of water, and avoid going out in the sun.
