(Update 1) RAWALPINDI: The Punjab School Education Department has revised school timings and announced summer vacations due to the ongoing heatwave across the province.
According to official notifications issued on May 20, 2025, all public and private schools in Punjab will remain closed from May 28 to August 14. Regular classes will resume on August 15, 2025.
Before the summer holidays, all afternoon schools will remain closed from May 21, while morning shift schools will follow revised timings from May 21 to May 27, operating from 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM.
For teachers, school hours have also been adjusted for academic and training activities. From Monday to Thursday, teachers will work from 7:15 AM to 12:00 PM, on Friday till 11:30 AM, and on alternate Saturdays from 7:30 AM to 10:30 AM.
The department has directed all Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of District Education Authorities (DEAs) to ensure strict compliance with the revised timings. DEAs have also been allowed to make a 15-minute adjustment for the opening and closing times of girls’ schools if needed.
The decision aims to protect students and teachers from extreme heat and ensure safety during school hours.
Evening Shift Schools Closed in Punjab:
In an earlier notification, Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat said that summer vacations in schools will start on May 28.
He made this announcement on his official social media page. He said that the new working hours (timings) of schools have also been announced, which will now be from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
It should be noted that last year, annual summer vacations were announced for the entire province of Punjab, according to which these vacations lasted from June 1 to August 14.

Meteorologists predict that this year’s heat wave might be stronger than usual. Because of this, the education department has decided to be flexible and may adjust school holidays based on the situation.
As per the details, Parents and students are asked to wait for an official announcement from the education department to avoid any confusion.
In Pakistan, schools typically have a long summer break from early June to early or mid-August. The main goal of these holidays is to provide relief from hot weather and give students and teachers time to rest, this break is an important pause from school activities.

Punjab Education Officers Transfers:
The Punjab Government has announced the transfer and appointment of 11 officers in Grades 17 and 18, including those in the School Education Department.
Rashid Iqbal, who was previously without a posting, has been appointed as Deputy Secretary in the School Education Department. Hafiz Irfan Hameed, formerly Deputy Secretary in the Specialised Healthcare Department, has been transferred to work under the Director General of the Urban and Town Planning Agency.
Naeem Siddiq Cheema, Deputy Secretary in the Irrigation Department South Punjab, has been reassigned to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). Ahmad Naveed, who was also awaiting a posting, is now Deputy Secretary in the Irrigation Department South Punjab.

The transfer orders for Muzammil Ilyas, Deputy Secretary in the Local Government Department, issued on April 11, have been canceled, and he will remain in his current role. M Abid, previously without a posting, has been appointed as a Member of the Chief Minister’s Inspection Team.
Sajid Munir, Deputy Secretary in the Energy Department, has been appointed as Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) in Khushab. Nauman Farooq, previously Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) in Dera Ghazi Khan, is now Deputy Secretary in the Energy Department.
Usman Munir Bukhari, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) in Vehari, has been transferred to the same role in Dera Ghazi Khan. Babar Suleman, Deputy Secretary in the Special Education Department, is now Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) in Vehari.
Dr. Fayyaz Ali, who was awaiting a posting, has been appointed as Deputy Secretary in the Special Education Department. The Services and General Administration Department (S&GAD) issued the notification after approval from Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman.
