ISLAMABAD – For the first time, a woman police officer has been appointed as Station House Officer (SHO) of a regular police station in Islamabad. Misbah Shahbaz has taken charge as SHO of Phulgran Police Station.
Misbah joined the police force in 2012 as an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and previously served as the SHO of a women police station. Her appointment was ordered by DIG Islamabad Jawad Tariq.
It is important to note that while women have served as SHOs and staff in women police stations in Islamabad before, this is the first time a woman has been posted as SHO of a general police station.
DIG Jawad Tariq said the decision is part of efforts to eliminate gender discrimination within the federal police. He added that women officers will be given more opportunities in other police stations as well.
He also said Islamabad Police believe in appointments based on merit rather than gender.
