RAWALPINDI: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued a detailed judgment in the case related to the killing of stray dogs. Justice Jawad Hassan issued a six-page judgment, in which it has been directed to give a comfortable and better death to incurable and dangerous dogs.
The court said that the dogs should be killed as per the guidelines of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council to avoid unnecessary suffering.
The court’s decision reviewed the ongoing dog-killing campaign in Rawalpindi while considering the appeal of the petitioners.

The petitioners had requested to stop the campaign, while the authorities said that this operation was launched based on complaints from citizens. The court directed the government to adopt alternative methods to prevent stray dog bites.
According to the Veterinary Officer of Rawalpindi, the lives of citizens are facing serious threats due to the increasing attacks by stray dogs, which led to the launch of this operation.

The court directed the government and other parties to follow an effective policy to maintain a balance between the rights of animals, public interest, and safety.
The court further said that the government should also take steps to prevent diseases spread by stray dogs. Along with this, a comprehensive strategy should be developed to solve the problem of stray dogs to ensure public safety.
The court’s decision emphasized that appropriate steps should be taken to protect human lives while taking into account the rights of animals.
