UNITED NATIONS, New York: Pakistan will take over the presidency of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in July, 2025.
Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Munir Akram, met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres at the UN Headquarters in New York in this regard.
During the meeting, Ambassador Akram briefed the Secretary-General on Pakistan’s proposed Programme of Work for the UNSC in July. He assured that Pakistan would lead the Council in an open, transparent, and consultative manner.
Both sides also discussed major global peace and security issues on the Council’s agenda, including the worsening situation in the Middle East, developments in Africa, Europe, Asia, and Latin America, and the role of UN peacekeeping missions.

Ambassador Munir Akram stressed the importance of upholding the principles and objectives of the UN Charter, particularly the peaceful resolution of conflicts to ensure global peace and stability. He also underlined the need for joint international efforts to address today’s complex global challenges. The ambassador reaffirmed Pakistan’s firm support for multilateral diplomacy and expressed full backing for the Secretary-General’s initiatives aimed at conflict prevention.
