Pakistan’s star batter Babar Azam reached a major milestone on Thursday, scoring 4,000 runs in Test cricket during the opening match of the series against South Africa at SuperSport Park, Centurion. This achievement adds to his long list of records, confirming his place as one of the best batsmen in the world.
Babar, who began the day with 3,997 runs from 55 Tests, needed just three more runs to reach the milestone. He brought up his 4,000th run in the 15th over of Pakistan’s innings, driving a full delivery from South Africa’s Corbin Bosch to the boundary through mid-wicket. The shot marked his 4,000th Test run in his 101st innings, with an impressive average of 54.46.
Babar Azam’s consistency in Test cricket is reflected in his career statistics: nine centuries, 25 half-centuries, and a highest score of 196. His Test average of 54.46 places him among the best batsmen in the format, a fact that further highlights his importance to Pakistan’s batting lineup.
This accomplishment follows a period of absence from the Test team. Babar’s return is especially noteworthy because he was left out of the squad for the last two Test matches against England earlier this year due to a decline in form.

Babar has joined an exclusive club of players due to the timing of this milestone. After achieving this feat, he becomes the third player in cricket history to score more than 4,000 runs in Test matches, 5,000 in ODIs, and 2,000 in T20Is, joining Indian cricket greats Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
