QUETTA: The Balochistan government has taken a principled decision to introduce the Benazir Kisan Card for the development of agriculture and the welfare of farmers in the province, for which funds have been approved for the first phase.
According to the provincial government spokesperson, Shahid Rind, Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has approved the Kisan Card on the summary of the Agriculture Department.
Shahid Rind said that, under the Benazir Kisan Card, subsidies will be given to small landowners of Balochistan, and the Information Technology Department will establish a cloud system for this Kisan Card project for two years.
The Balochistan government is starting the first phase of the Kisan Card with its own resources, and support will be sought from the federal government in the second phase.
He further said that the Kisan Card is part of the farmer-friendly vision of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, and Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto has directed work on a comprehensive strategy for the welfare of farmers of Sindh and Balochistan.
Shahid Rind reiterated that the Balochistan government is starting the first phase of the Kisan Card with its own resources, and support will be sought from the federal government in the second phase.

It may be recalled that earlier in Punjab, a Rs. 400 billion project for farmers had been started, and the Kisan Card was also launched. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had announced the provision of free tractors to farmers owning 25 acres of land. She assured the farmers, saying, “Grow wheat, profit is my responsibility.”
According to the Punjab Agriculture Department, ten projects for farmers were activated in a short period of just six months. For the first time in the history of Pakistan, the Chief Minister Punjab Kisan Card has been launched at a cost of Rs. 150 billion, which is being declared a milestone for the development of agriculture.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, while launching the Kisan Card in a record period of six months, said that this project is a historic step for the welfare of landowners and the promotion of agriculture.
Through the Kisan Card, subsidies, financial assistance, and other agricultural incentives are being provided to small farmers, which will help increase their production and reduce economic difficulties.
