LAHORE: The much-awaited winter rains finally arrived in Lahore today, bringing an end to the prolonged dry spell. The city experienced a pleasant chill as cool winds swept through the area.
The downpour has also led to a significant drop in temperatures. Various parts of Lahore, including Garhi Shahu, Abbot Road, Mall Road, Jail Road, Ferozepur Road, Model Town, Gulberg, Kalma Chowk, and Garden Town, received rainfall. This marks the end of a long dry spell in the city.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), light rain is expected to continue throughout the day. Nearby cities like Kasur, Kahna, Pakpattan, and Renala Khurd are also likely to experience similar weather conditions.
Apart from rain, the PMD has issued a severe cold wave warning for mountainous regions during morning and night hours.

Temperatures in mountainous areas have already dropped significantly. Leh recorded a chilling -13°C, Skardu -11°C, Gops -9°C, and Gilgit and Dir -8°C. Astar, Kalat, and Bagrot experienced temperatures of -7°C, while Quetta, Ziarat, and Chitral recorded -5°C. The PMD has forecast a further decrease in temperatures over the next few days.
