KPK govt launches education card for students in 9 districts

PESHAWAR: In a meeting of the Education Department under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) , Sardar Ali Amin Gandapur, it was decided to issue an education card, similar to the health card, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under the education emergency to promote education in the province.

According to the spokesperson of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, the province has become the first in the country to launch an education card. Initially, the education card will be issued in 9 backward districts of the province, with plans to extend it to other districts later.

It was decided in the meeting that these 9 districts include Upper Kohistan, Lower Kohistan, Kolai Pallas, Torghar, Upper Chitral, Lower Chitral, Tank, Upper South Waziristan, and Lower South Waziristan. Children enrolled in government schools in these districts under the education card will receive a monthly stipend.

Children from these districts will also be able to get free admission to private registered schools through the education card.

Initially, 40,000 children from these nine districts will benefit from the education card. Additionally, about five and a half lakh girls in the province will benefit from the monthly education scholarships.

Meeting was informed that under the education card, girls from grades six to ten who are already studying in government schools across the province will also receive a stipend of 500 rupees per month.

As per spokesperson of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, free textbooks, educational scholarships, and all other existing facilities will also be combined under the education card.

According to a declaration by the provincial government, to ensure the education card’s sustainability, Chief Minister Ali Amin has taken a revolutionary step by deciding to establish the Chief Minister Education Emergency Endowment Fund with an amount of 3 billion rupees. Under the education card, scholarships will also be awarded to 506 intelligent students.
