LAHORE: The Punjab government has nearly completed a feasibility report for the Yellow Line Train Transit Project in Lahore, and the project is scheduled to begin in September 2025, according to a private TV report.
As per the tv sources, said that Automated Rapid Transport (ART) system will be started during current year while this project will be completed in June 2026.
Yellow Line Train project Transit Project will be expanded on 24 kilometers while its estimated cost will be Rs60 billion to Rs80 billion.
Yellow Line Project will start from Jinnah Bus Terminal and will conclude on Harbanspura in June 2026. The train will run between both sides of Canal Road.
Around 18 modern smart stations will be established and 1,30,000 passengers will benefit from this facility.
The project will be included in next year’s development projects. Yellow Line project will start in September 2025.
An autonomous rail system will be operational without any driver but the train will be operated by drivers in Lahore. A set of 30 trains will be imported from China. These electric trains are also operational in China and United Arab Emirates.

It is necessary to mention here that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz already granted approval to this project while Punjab cabinet’s nod in this regard is still pending. After Punjab cabinet this project will be forwarded to ECNEC for approval.
Separately, in another development in the province, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced good news: development plans for Faisalabad, including a metrobus service and electric buses. She also made a surprise visit to Kamoke in Gujranwala, where she ordered a petrol pump to be sealed for under-measuring fuel and inspected sanitation efforts.
At the Laptop and Talent Scholarship Phase II ceremony at GC University Faisalabad, Ms. Nawaz stated that a metrobus service will start in Faisalabad next year, along with green electric buses. She said a detailed development plan, similar to Lahore’s, would be applied to Faisalabad and its nearby cities and villages, turning them into model communities.
She mentioned that the nation’s recent success against an enemy was due to unity among the leadership, armed forces, and the people. “We faced a strong enemy, but the Pakistani forces fought well, and the nation stayed united,” she said. “We won the war and ensured a better future for our country.”

She honored those who sacrificed for the country’s defense and noted that jets like the Rafale, once considered unbeatable, were defeated by Pakistan’s JF-17 Thunder jets. Speaking about the 1998 nuclear tests, she said Nawaz Sharif made a firm decision despite international pressure and sanctions.
In Kamoke, Ms. Nawaz carried out a surprise inspection of various areas and ordered a petrol pump sealed after it was found under-measuring fuel.
She visited several fuel stations, GT Road Kamoke, service roads, Tiba Muhammad Nagar, Kasoki Road underpass, and nearby areas under the Suthra Punjab (Clean Punjab) campaign. She was unhappy with the poor sanitation and ordered daily waste collection and strict action against violators.
Punjab CM launches electric bus service in Lahore
Earlier, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz launched the first electric bus service in the provincial capital. Transport Minister Bilal Akbar informed the chief minister about the electric bus service pilot project.
The bus includes a GPS location recorder, Wi-Fi, USB ports, and other features. It has 30 seats and can carry up to 80 passengers at a time.
The bus has ramps and reserved seats for differently abled passengers. For the first time, an anti-slip sheet has been added to the bus floor for passenger safety. Nine charging stations have been set up at the Green Town Hamdard Chowk depot for these buses.

Each bus can travel 250 kilometers on a single charge and may complete its route four times per charge. Each bus will display its route for commuter convenience. Closed-circuit cameras will be installed to prevent harassment.
The chief minister was informed that 27 electric buses will operate on the city’s longest 21-kilometer route, from the railway station to Green Town via Queens Road, Mozang, Ferozepur Road, and PU Campus Bridge.
Around 17,000 people will be able to use these buses daily. The electric bus service will officially start in mid-February, with 42 bus shelters being built along the route. Buses will arrive every nine minutes.
Fares can be paid using digital wallets or digital cards. Universal transport cards will also be issued. A special app will be launched to allow bus tracking.
